Bush Hunters Disturbing Activities of Berekum-Fetentaa Tomatoes Farmers

GAME HUNTING IS DISTURBING TOMATO FARMING ACTIVITIES AT BEREKUM - FETENTAA.

Fetentaa, a farming community which is now booming economically in tomatoes farming in the Berekum West District of the Bono Region of Ghana, has attracted the attention of buyers from neighboring Bukina Faso, Niger, Cote D'ivoire and other parts of African countries. However, the farmers are complaining bitterly about the activities of the game hunters during the broad daylight.

Alrich24newsgh.com speaking to the Assembly Member for the Fetentaa Electoral Area, Hon. Amponsah Benneh, has called for drastic measures against the game hunters who are disrupting the economic activities of the farmers in the area.

According to him, he has made an appeal to the Berekum Divisional Police Command during a stakeholders meeting organized by the Ghana Refugees Board at Fetentaa and said the commander assured him to deal with the game hunters found culpable with such activities.

The assemblyman said, the game hunters operate in groups during the daytime with their dogs and guns moving around their farms disturbing farmers.

He has therefore charged the Ghana National Fire Service,  Ghana Police Service and the Forestry Commission as a matter of urgency to come to their aid to lose any farmer and even to reduce farming activities especially the tomato farmers which activities are increasing the socioeconomic development in the district. He said the farmers work has increased the revenue base of the district.

The farmers who are mainly tomato growers also expressed their displeasure on the activities of the game hunters and said their work is  disturbing their piece of mind as farmers.

They said, their tomato farming is now booming and they have become the hallmark of tomatoes supply to some neighboring countries in Africa.
They therefore appeal to the government through the ministry of Food and Agriculture to also come to their aid by supplying them with agro inputs to enhanced their activities.
