JAPEKROM AND DROBO TO SMOKE PEACE PIPE - GOVERNMENT DELEGATION
A three (3) member government delegation made up of 3 Members of Council State has been sent by the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo to the Jaman South Municipal of the Brong Ahafo Region to help resolve the traditionl disputes between the twin towns of Japekrom and Drobo which resulted in the death of three souls including a one year old baby.
The delegation is led by, Nana Owusu Nsiah, the former police IGP, the former Ambassador to Israel. The rest includes Hon. Dr Margaret Amoakohene, a Communication Lecture of School of Communications and Hon. Kojo Agyemim Boateng the Brong Ahafo representative. The team who all hails from the Brong Ahafo Region are to begin a peace processes that will lead to a lasting solution to the impasse in area.
The President of the Brong Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs, Pimapim Yaw Kabrease the Omanhene of Yeji was also part of the delegation to help solve the escalating tensions that ensued between the two towns. The tension in the two towns that occurred a month ago led the Brong Ahafo Regional Security Council to imposse curfew on the two towns. The people in these two towns have been under curfew for the past one month from 6:00am to 6:00pm each day.
The leader of the delegation, Nana Owusu Nsiah with his team first meet the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Jaman South Municipal Assembly, Hon. Alhaji Abuu to inform him about their visit to the two towns. The MCE expressed that, the curfew that has been impossed on them is affecting their economic growth in the Municipality. He urged the chiefs and the people of the two towns to bear with the government to help bring peace and unity to the Jaman South Municipality.
The delegation then visited Japekrom to meet the Omanhene of Japekrom and his elders, Okatakyei Aturu Konkonkyei II. In his introductory speech, Nana Owusu Nsiah said, the three council of state members have been sent by the President Nana Akufo Addo and the Chairman of the Council of State, Nana Otuo Serebour to have talks with Nananom and people of Japekrom to help resolve issues that has brought the confusion between them and Drobo.
He appealed to the chiefs and the people of Japekrom to allow peace to prevail in the area since if the curfew continue, it will retard the development of the area. He said the curfew which has been impossed on them will affect them negatively as well as their children's education therefore they should try to consent with them to help bring unity and peace to the people. The second part of the meeting was held in camera between the three member delegation and the Japekrom chief Okatakyei Aturu Amoah Konkonkyei II and his elders. The Japekrom youth welcomed the delegation with their written placards inscription such as "obey the supreme Court verdict, Di Mmra no so and others".
After the meeting, Okatakyei Aturu Amoah Konkonkyei II, thanked the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo for his concern about the problems his people are going through at Japekrom. He said, peace can only be prevailed after when the perpetrators who committed the act of killing some three members of their relatives have been arrested. He called on authorities to abide by the supreme court rulings as well as the court of appeal rulings so that the peace they are crying for will work effectively.
He said, the people of Japekrom are ready to welcome the processes that will bring peace to the area. He appealed to the president and the minister of interior as well a the Minister of National Security to lift the curfew placed on them.
Some citizens of Japekrom in an interview with Alrich24newsgh.com explained that, the curfew which has been laid on them has affected them both economically and financially, their businesses are collapsing. They claim their business have become to a standstill especially night traders.
The three council members of state letf Japekrom for Drobo to meet the Drobo Omanhene, Okokyeredom SakyiAko II and his elders to have a closed door meeting with the Nananom of Drobo.
After the meeting, the Omanhene of Drobo said they are also ever ready to ensure that peace will be maintained within Drobo and Japekrom to end the tension in the area.
Nana Owusu Nsiah finally concluded that, the information gathered from the two towns are to be submitted to the president and the council of state chairman for the necessary advise to be followed to rectify the situation in the area.
