WENCHI YOUTH FOR DEVELOPMENT PETITIONED WENCHI MCE

WENCHI YOUTH FOR DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION PETITIONS MCE OVER DEATH TRAP BRIDGE IN WENCHI.

The Wenchi Youth For Development Association a youth group fighting for the progress and development for the people of Wenchi in the Brong Ahafo Region has petitioned the Municipal Chief Executive of Wenchi Municipality Hon. Dr. Kwakye Afriyie and the Wenchi Traditional Council over the current condition of the death trap bridge on the (GORFO) river.
In recent times many pot holes have been detected on the said stretch of road around the Methodist University School of Nursing area a situation which has aroused public concern on the condition of the underground bridge on the (gorfo) river which is gradually collapsing.
In the petition letter which the Wenchi Youth For Development Association sent to the Municipal Assembly, they described the patching of that stretch of road has been done on several occasions but to no avail.
As one of the major stakeholders of the Wenchi Municipality they have observed and discussed this issue in their meetings countless times since they can't do anything but to alert the authorities to avert the death trap bridge in the Wenchi Municipality.
The youth explain that, they have recently visited the place and what they saw triggered them to petitioned the assembly to find a solution to it until its  late.
According to the Wenchi Youth For Development Association when you descend down the bridge you immediately notice that the retaining wall that holds the bridge and protect the laterite filling from being washed away by the running water has been broken and falling into the river.
As lame persons the situation at first sight looks scary and alarming and one that needs immediate attention.
In the petition letter they said tension and fear has grip the good people of the Municipality and users of the highway.
The letter further reads that as the only road that connects the Municipality and also links the Brong Ahafo Region to the Upper West Region, would be prudent if immediate attention is given to this situation.
We don't anticipate the collapse of the bridge but in the event of same happening the anticipated casualties will be great the group said.
All that the Wenchi Youth For Development Association seeks to achieve is the call by authorities to do an immediate safety action of the bridge reconstruction and the road  maintenances be done. They want publicly an assurance from the assembly to the good people of this Municipality to allay any fear with regards to the current condition of the said portion of the main Techiman-  Wenchi- Wa highway.
