CURFEW HAS BEEN IMPOSED ON TWIN TOWNS OF JAPEKROM AND DROBO IN THE JAMAN SOUTH DISTRICT OF B/A

The Minister of Interior has granted a request by the Brong Ahafo Regional Security Council for a curfew on the twin towns of Japekrom and Drobo in the Jaman South District of the Brong Ahafo Region following a violence that claimed three lives on Wednesday evening.
It is feared that the death toll could be increased due to the escalating nature of the situation, there have been rumours that several residents have been attacked and killed by the youth of Japekrom.
An ambulance belonging to the St. Mary’s Hospital in Drobo has also been burnt and destroyed by Japekrom youth.
Youth from the two towns clashed on Wednesday evening at Drobo when the residents of Japekrom were returning from Mpuasu, their spiritual town where they had gone to perform some rituals as part of the celebration of their annual Munufie festival.
According to the information I have gathered, residents of Japekrom had performed some traditional gestures which the people of Drobo saw as demeaning and insulting.
The three persons which included be the mmrantehene (youth chief) of Japekrom, a taxi driver and another female who are all believed to be indigines of Japekrom are said to have died from gunshot wounds.
Several others who received gunshot wounds have been receiving treatment at the Sampa Government Hospital in the Jaman North District.
A mini bus in which they were traveling was also burnt to ashes.
The youth of Japekrom however vowed to avenge the death of their colleagues and attacked Drobo bound vehicles in the early hours of Thursday.
There is heavy military and police presence in the two towns to avert any further attacks.
Brong Ahafo Regional Minister designate Hon. Evans Opoku Bobie has  at a press conference in Sunyani announced that a 6pm to 6am curfew has been placed on the two towns until absolute peace returns to the area.
