Paramount Chief of Sunyani, Odeefour Ogyamansan Boahen Korkor II Condemns Unwarrated Actions Against his Paramouncy.

Ladies and gentlemen,

On Sunday, April 20, 2025, we celebrated the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. I wish you all a happy belated Easter and long life to Nananom and our ancestors in the Sunyani Traditional Area.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to each of you for making my welcome ceremony (AKWAABA) on April 17, 2025, a colorful and memorable occasion.

Upon my return from the United States, I have received several calls and complaints regarding illegal activities occurring in our town, which deeply saddens me.

By the grace of God and my ancestors, the Sunyani Traditional Area is under my stewardship, and I share this responsibility with no one. My duty is to hold our traditions in trust for both our ancestors and future generations. I am answerable only to them and to Nananom, who are my lieutenants.

At a press conferece, he said, I am not an autocratic leader, nor am I vindictive, but I am principled in my customary duties and my service to humanity. I strive to be fair, just, honest, and meticulous in all my dealings.

However, I have observed unwarranted actions by some within our community that threaten the dignity of my stool and the Boahen Korkor throne. I, Odeefour Ogyamansan Boahen Korkor II, will not sit idly by while selfish individuals tarnish the reputation of my family and our traditions.

Let me address some of these concerning issues:

1. Market Concerns: I will not tolerate the maltreatment of our mothers selling yams at the market. Reports have emerged of yam sellers being paraded at my Traditional Council, subjected to humiliation and insults. I assure our mothers that within two weeks, they will be able to sell their yams in the Sunyani markets without fear. Anyone who opposes this will face consequences.

2. Misrepresentation: There are individuals, including Nananom and Queenmothers, misrepresenting themselves as members of the Sunyani Traditional Council, signing consent letters, and unlawfully collecting money. I will not permit anyone to exploit the Council for personal gain. I have referred this matter for investigation and expect a report within two weeks.

3. Land Sales: It has come to my attention that some Chiefs and Queenmothers have been selling lands and forging consent letters. Anyone wishing to secure land in Sunyani must come to my secretariat for proper assistance. Dealing with unauthorized individuals is at your own risk.

4. Media Misconduct: I have received evidence of Chiefs and Queenmothers making disparaging remarks about my prominent Chiefs on various media platforms. I warn any member of the traditional leadership not to speak to the media without my express authorization. Violators will face destoolment.

5. Development Transactions: Any household member wishing to engage in development must consult with Nananom first. No payments should be made to Chiefs or Queenmothers without proper engagement. I am committed to the development of our town.

6. Authority: I am the sole paramount Chief of the Sunyani Traditional Area. All state institutions must cease dealings with any third parties regarding matters of authority. I challenge anyone to contest this.

Wstch video here.

7. Freedom of Speech: I uphold freedom of speech and support the media. However, I will not tolerate misinformation about my land. Media personnel should approach me for accurate information.

8. Chieftaincy and Politics: I reiterate that chieftaincy is not politics. The 1992 constitution prohibits Chiefs from political participation, and I stand firm in this regard. I will protect my stool from those who attempt to politicize it.

9. Commitment to Safety: I pledge to protect and defend all individuals in my land. I am committed to creating a safe and secure environment for everyone.

10. Conclusion: Thank you all for being here today. May Nananom bless you all.

Thank you.
