Ghana Education Service Berekum East Municipal Holds 2023 Teachers Prize Awards.


The Berekum East Municipal Education Directorate under the Ghana Education Service has on 16th February 2023 has held it's 2023 Teachers Prize Awards.


As part of the celebration, the education directorate earmarked a whole week as an "education week" to celebrate the deserving teachers in the Berekum East Municipality of the Bono Region. 


The maidan Teachers Prize award was initiated by the Municipal Education Director, Mrs Beatrice Mamely Nkum after her two years in office and together with her planning committee planned to awarde a number of 30 deserving teachers from Kindergarten to Second Cycle Schools in the Berekum Municipality. 


Speaking at the occasion, the Vice Chancellor of Catholic University, Professor Dainei Obeng-Ofori who was the guest speaker commended the education directorate to acknowledge the hardworking teachers working to achieve education standards within the Municipality. 


Emphasizing the theme for the celebration, "Quality Education, the Role of Stakeholders", Professor Obeng-Ofori encouraged the teachers never to relent in their effort to work towards quality education thereby providing their best to train the child to fit and function well in society. On the part of stakeholders, he urged all parents holistically and other organizations to support education especially when it comes to logistics, learning materials, infrastructure and others for the progress of quality education in the Berekum Municipality. 


The Bono Regional Director of Education, Mr. Gabriel Antwi on his part also commended the Municipal Education Directorate for their hard work to see an occasion like this where teachers receive category of prizes.  


He took the opportunity to advise the teachers present to take their lesson notes preparation very seriously either in a soft or hard copy format. 


He again implores parents to assist so much in their children's education and they should uphold the education of their children in high esteem since they are their future. He also cautioned school authorities to take the children out of the Parent Association (PA) where some children are sacked from school all because their parents have not paid the so-called PA dues hence the child should bear the cost or suffer in such a situation and that is what the government has kicked against the PA with the involvement of the children. 


The Berekum East Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Kofi Adjei also stressed the theme which he said was very timely and explained that stakeholders have a role to play in complementing the government's effort to achieve quality education. 






He again emphasises that parents have a serious role to play in achieving quality education for their wards since charity begins at home and the kind of intellectual and moral upbringing that parents inculcate in their children has a strong potential to impact negatively or positively on their children in the classroom and also provide education needs of their children to help achieve quality education. 


Osaberima Ofori Yeboah, the chief Twiwbabi and Dwantuahene of Berekum who represented on behalf of Berekum Omahemaa Nana Akosua Ameyaa III also commended the teachers for such an occasion and thanked the organizers for the event. 


He said, that for years is hard to see such an event like this that seems to award teachers and believe the occasion is one of which kind which believes has put smiles on the faces of the teachers.


Adding that in the coming year or next, the prizes will only not be television sets, fridges and others but a car will be given out to deserving teachers and also called on the planning committee to consider some organizations that have contributed to the progress of education such as Berekumman Citizens Association and other organization which has built an ICT Labs and constructing of classroom blocks to promote quality education in Berekum.  




The Berekum East Municipal Education Director, Mrs. Beatrice Marmely Nkum commended the directorate for the hard work to see this dream come through and also thanked all individuals and corporate organizations that helped the directorate to put up such an occasion to award hardworking teachers within the Municipality. 


Some of the items that were given out as prizes to the deserving teachers include but are not limited to the following a total of 30 LED TV sets with a different inch ranging from 43 to 32, tabletop fridges, standing fans and gas stoves.


Among the dignitaries that grace the occasion were the Omanhemaa of Berekum representative, Osaberima Ofori Yeboah, Vice Chancellor of Catholic University, Professor Daniel Obeng Ofori, Bono Regional Education Director, Mr Gabriel Antwi, representative of Berekum East Member of Parliament, Municipal Chief Executive,  Hon. Kofi Adje, Berekum East Education Director, Mrs Beatrice Marmele Nkum.

The Omanhene of Berekum Traditional Area in the Berekum Municipal of the Bono Region Dasebre Dr Amankona Diawuo II has passed on. The announcement of the demise of the Berekum Traditional leader was done today Friday 9th June 2023 by the chief spiritualist of Berekum Nana Komfo Kofi who was asked to take care of the health of the paramount chief but on his announcement, the paramount chief could not make it but joined his ancestors. Dasebre Dr Amankona Diawuo II was a doctor by profession and an active Church elder of the Church of Pentecost who serve the people of Berekum with calm and peaceful leadership who seek to maintain peace and unity after 17 years of chieftaincy dispute during his reign as the paramount chief of Berekum. A Student of Ghana National College from Sunyani-Chiraa Scores 8A's in 2023 WASSCE.  A Senior High Student of Ghana National College in Cape Coast, Owusu Peprah Priscilla who hails from Chiraa in the Sunyani West Municipality of the Bono Region has also scored 8A's in the West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).  Her effort and the results she obtained have brought great joy to her family and the people of Chiraa without hesitation wishing her congratulations on most of the social media platforms.
