Watch video: Guinea President Alpha Conde overthrown, see what might be the cause.

President of Guinea Alpha Conde was overthrown by military officers including his personal bodyguard what do you think may be the cause?

See the course of the overthrow of the Guinean President Alpha Conde.

A few days ago, Guinean President Alpha Conde allowed Parliament to pass a Bill to increase his salary while reducing salaries of civil servants including a reduction in salaries of military officers and other soldiers.

The problem is Alpha Conde is our fair-weather West African friend the 82-year old President who wouldn't listen to wise counsel like his counterparts elsewhere in the subregion. As his own presidential guards appear to have overthrown him this morning, if the coup succeeds, he'd be lucky to come out alive. Diplomatic sources claim his health has also been failing him in recent times.

Last year, he defied the original constitutional provision to extend his 2 terms to 3 and he stole the election. When people protested, he unleashed the security services on them and several people were killed or injured. The irony is that he was once an opposition activist who campaigned against such undemocratic behaviour in the past when he was looking for power. In short, he refused to listen to wise counsel and the seeming coup d'etat in Guinea right now is because he refused to learn from the chequered political history of his country.

More so, the leader of the Coup Mamady Doumbouya was a Corporal in the France and returned home in 2018. Subsequently. President Alpha Conde appointed him the battalion commander and in 2019 he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel & then got promoted to Colonel in 2020.

When the military high command had issues with his third term, Alpha Conde purged the presidential guard and established a group of special forces who were loyal to him and Mamady Doumbouya was made to lead that well-equipped special forces. Today the leader of that special forces he created led a coup against him.
